 The classes in the 'MSA' Series

 

ABkC Dunlop Cadet National Championship
Cadets are for 8 to 13 year olds, and the specially approved mini-chassis (not restricted to British makes) use a 60cc Comer W.60 engine. Tyres are from Dunlop and number plates are yellow with black numbers.

ABkC Dunlop Super Cadet
This is a new class for 2011, for 11 to 14 year olds and uses a kart chassis of 950mm wheelbase, halfway between Cadet and the Junior classes.  Engines are not sealed but must be registered and homologated, there are about half a dozen different makes available, mostly Italian.  The number plates are white with black numbers.  Class weight is 115kg with a maximum kart weight without driver of 80kg.

MSA Formula KF3 British Championship
For 13 to 17 year olds (13th year with prior experience), 125cc reed valve engine with centrifugal clutch and various tuning restrictions. They use Bridgestone tyres and yellow number plates with black numbers. This is also a class raced internationally and many of our drivers will also compete in European and World events. Timed qualifying is held to determine the grid positions for the two heats. The best 30 drivers progress to two points scoring finals.

ABkC KF2 National Championship and from 2011 this also becomes the MSA British Championship
This class is one of the hardest fought and competitive classes, using internationally homologated (registered and approved) chassis with 125cc reed valve TAG engines, maximum rpm 15000. For seniors (16th year and above, or younger with international experience), using Bridgestone tyres and white number plates with black numbers. Each driver in this class will take part in a ten minute timed session, to determine the grid positions for the two heats. The best 30 drivers progress to two points scoring finals..

MSA Formula Super KF / KF1  - discontinued for 2011

Formula KGP
This is a new class for 2011 and uses a unsealed BMB engine from the Birel company.  Any make of chassis is permitted.  The engines uses a conventional kart carburettor, and has no power valve.  Performance is halfway between Rotax Max and KF2.  Number plates are yellow with black numbers and there is a Masters category for heavier drivrs that uses green number plates.  Go here for turther information.

ABkC Tal-Ko Formula Junior TKM National Championship

For 11 to 17 year olds, restricted to 100cc British TKM engine with various sizes of inlet restrictors depending on the weight of the driver, and approved karts. No tuning and very few chassis modifications are allowed. Uses Maxxis long life tyres and blue number plates with white numbers.  Note for 2011 drivers must be a minimum of 4ft 7in in height and a minimum of 38kg weight with racewear on.

ABkC Tal-Ko Formula TKM Extreme National Championships

The same type of engine and chassis types as the junior, but without an engine restrictor, makes it easy to move from Junior to Senior and the engine is increased in size to 115cc. The class uses red number plates with white numbers and Maxxis tyres. The TKM classes are raced extensively at club level, resulting in high competition in the Super One.
